 Specialisation

  • Concrete and steel design
  • Finite Element Analysis
  • Hydrostatic calculation of floating structures

Qualifications

  • MEng, Politecnico di Bari - ITALY

Experience

Martino Abbattista has experience in a range of different projects and using various software such as AutoCAD (2 & 3D), MathCAD, SAP2000 (FEA), ORCAflex and Wolfson Unit HST for hydrostatic calculations.

He has developed MathCAD spreadsheets to undertake:

  • design of plated structures in accordance with BS 5400-3 and Eurocodes (BS EN 1993-1-5)
  • fracture mechanic assessment in accordance with BS 7910
  • implementation and validation of the Ultimate Limit State Design of Steel-Plated Structures formulation for ISO 18072-2.

The last work has led to the publication of two papers with regards to the comparison between the results obtained from PAFA-SPS, the software developed at PAFA, and ALPS/ULSAP, the software developed by prof. Jeom Kee Paik.

Furthermore, Mr Abbattista has undertaken hydrostatic calculation to assess stability of normal and complex vessels such as Oyster 2, i.e. a Wave Energy Converter.

He has also undetaken, in collaboration with his colleague Sandy Fyfe, the revision of a new concept for a Tension Leg Platform Wind Turbine.
